How to use the new web based card catalog: Standard version

From the library home page select Standard Card Catalog

The default search is a keyword search, which allows you to enter any search criteria, such as subject, words in the title, or author.

To use, enter a search term such as Cats and click the search button.

The results will show you only those books owned by our library. It will allow you to list the first 250 books with that term.

By clicking on the title in the search results, you get detailed information about the book.

Click the search button to return to the main search menu.

By clicking on browse from the main search screen, you can browse by a variety of things, as seen below.

For example, to browse for authors with a last name of king, change the Browse to Author and type King  in the search box, then click Search.

Here you can see authors with a last name of King and how many matches there are for each.

By browsing through the pages, you can find the author you want.

Clicking on the author’s name gives you a list of titles along with the status of the books.

Clicking on the Advanced tab allows you to set detailed criteria for the search.

Clicking on the New Items tab allows you to search based on when an item has been added to the library. NOTE: All books were added to this new system in April of 2009, and are listed as “new” from that date.

Clicking the reading programs tab allows you to search based on point values and reading level only if that information is available in the record.

At the top of the screen is the Log On link.

Patron ID number is your 14 digit library barcode

The default pin is the last 4 digits of your barcode. Note: Change this on your first logon!

Here is the summary of your account.

From here you can edit your PIN (you might also call this your password)

Clicking edit PIN allows you to do so. You need your old PIN to edit this yourself. Note that if you go to the library, you can have staff reset it for you.

Clicking Edit Account will allow you to change/add your email address only. To change any other information, you must go to the library.

Clicking on Current Loans will show you what you have out and when it is due.

If you put a checkmark in front of a book, you can then renew it. Note that renewals are not possible if it is overdue, there is a hold on that book, or if you have fines.

Clicking on Loan History will show you what you have checked out since April 2009.

Clicking on Holds will show you the items you have on hold for yourself.

To place a hold on a book, search and find it. Click Hold Request.

Place a check mark in front of the copy you wish placed on hold, and enter/verify you barcode and PIN. Then Click Submit Request.

It will notify you that your hold has been placed. Click Close Window to continue.

If you should need to cancel a hold, go to the Holds section of your account. Put a checkmark in front of the hold to be canceled and click Cancel.

It will verify that the hold has been canceled.

The Fees section of your account will allow you to see what (if any) fines are owed and what it is owed for. You cannot pay fines online.

Saved Searches will show you any searches you have saved, and will allow you to delete them if you choose.

To save a search, first do a search, then click the Save Search link.

Name the search, enter your barcode and pin and if you wish, type a description of the search.

It will verify that your search has been saved.

From the saved searches section of your account, you can rerun the search at any time by clicking on the blue name of the search. The search will open in a new tab/window.

When you are finished, make sure you click the Log Off link.

This screen means you have successfully logged out and no one can access your information.
